Consumer Counsel Coleman Statement on United Illuminating Notice of Intent to Seek a Rate Increase

8/01/2022
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (August 1, 2022) – Consumer Counsel Claire Coleman issued the following statement regarding United Illuminating (UI’s) notice filed today with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority indicating its intent to seek a three-year rate increase, including an increase of over twenty-eight percent in the first year.

“UI’s customers are already struggling with high costs from inflation and record-high electricity rates due to global energy market volatility. My office will be carefully examining the details of UI’s request and will offer the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) an alternative that prioritizes the welfare of Connecticut ratepayers,” said Consumer Counsel Claire Coleman.
