• Customer Service Guidelines

  To provide prompt and effective customer service, the Bureau of Educator Standards and Certification has established the following guidelines.

• Coaching Permit First Time Issuance

  A coach (regardless of coaching assignment) of intramural or interscholastic athletics in kindergarten through grade 12 is required to hold a permit

• edTPA

  edTPA is a performance-based, subject-specific assessment and support system used by educator preparation programs (EPPs) to emphasize, support, and measure the skills and knowledge that teacher candidates need from day one to help all students in real classrooms learn.

• I Want to Become a Certified Educator

• Approved Courses for Special Education

  Connecticut State regulations require the completion of a course in special education for all applicants seeking certification. The regulations mandate this course be comprised of not fewer than 36 clock hours, which shall include study in understanding the growth and development of exceptional children, including handicapped and gifted and talented children and children who may require special education, and methods of identifying, planning for and working effectively with special-needs children in the regular classroom.

• Foreign Credentials - Approved Evaluation Agencies

  If you completed any post-secondary education outside of the United States, you must have your credentials evaluated by an agency currently approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education and meet current certification requirements, including coursework and assessments.

• Charter Oak College Exams

  Charter Oak State College offers CLEP, DANTES and other examinations in a variety of subject areas.

• Educator Preparation Providers (EPPs) and Programs in Connecticut

  Educator preparation providers (EPP) and programs that are currently approved by the Connecticut State Board of Education.
