Governor Dannel P. Malloy joins UTC Chief Financial Officer Greg Hayes, University of Hartford finance professor Susan Coleman, and Hartford Courant columnist Tom Condon at a forum to discuss how Connecticut can stay competitive nationally and globally. Governor Malloy will discuss key strategies to create and retain Connecticut jobs, how getting our fiscal house in order will bring the stability businesses need to compete and thrive, and his new “First Five” initiative to attract companies to Connecticut and bring jobs to the state, among other things.

Gov. Malloy Joins Operation Fuel and Energy Providers to Announce Innovative New Program Aimed At Reducing Small Business Energy Costs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined State Senator John Fonfara, representatives from Dominion, PSEG and Operation Fuel at a mid-morning press conference in Hartford to announce a new pilot program designed to help women- and minority-owned businesses reduce their energy costs and educate themselves about energy consumption.

Saturday: Governor Malloy to Welcome Home 600 CT National Guard Soldiers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy will join General Thad Martin at the William A. O'Neill Armory to welcome home 600 Connecticut National Guard soldiers from Afghanistan. Commanded by Lt. Colonel Fran Evon of Newington, the 1st Battalion 102nd Infantry departed Connecticut in November 2009 for training, before being deployed in combat missions overseas.

Governor Malloy Names Eight to Serve on State Board of Education
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced he has nominated eight residents to serve as members of the State Board of Education: Joseph J. Vrabely, Jr. of Glastonbury; Patricia Keavney-Maruca of Watertown; Terry H. Jones of Shelton; Ellen Camhi of Stamford; Charles A. Jaskiewicz, III of Norwich; Estela López of East Hartford; Ferdinand L. Risco, Jr. of New Haven; and Stephen P. Wright of Trumbull.

Governor Malloy Moves to Add Rail Cars to New Haven Line
Governor Dannel P. Malloy moved today to add much-needed rail cars to the beleaguered New Haven Line – announcing that buses will be used on the Waterbury Branch commuter rail line beginning Saturday, freeing up two 7-car, diesel-powered trains that can be put into service on the New Haven Line. With each car carrying about 100 people, the action will make about 1,400 additional seats available.

Governor Malloy: Unemployment Insurance Benefits Go Paperless, Achieves Noteworthy Savings
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that a move by the state Department of Labor towards a new paperless direct deposit system for unemployment insurance benefits will save the state approximately $300,000 a month on printing and mailing costs – a notable shift toward finding efficiencies that reduces state spending while improving services. The Governor said the move is an example of the type of change he would like to carry across all state departments as he continues looking for ways to reduce costs.

Governor Malloy Writes President Obama to Request Additional Federal Aid for Winter Storms
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today wrote to President Barack Obama to alert him to a forthcoming request for federal aid to address the impacts of the record snowstorm on January 11-12, but also to request additional federal aid commensurate with the severity of damages Connecticut is experiencing as the winter wears on.

Governor Malloy: Plan Now for Protecting Property In The Event of Spring Flooding
As the winter of 2011 continues to take its toll on homes and businesses around Connecticut, Governor Dannel P. Malloy is reminding property owners that the spring of 2011 could be just as potentially damaging, particularly for those property owners who live in areas where flooding poses a real threat. The Governor is once again reminding property owners that there is a 30-day waiting period for federal flood insurance from time of purchase before the policy goes into effect.

Governor Malloy Activates Emergency Operation Center Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Governor Dannel P. Malloy will activate the state's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to respond to another possibly substantial storm gearing up to blast the state with snow, ice, sleet and rain over the next 36 hours.

Governor Malloy's Budget: Creates Jobs, Shares the Sacrifices that Need to be Made, and is Balanced With No Gimmicks
Governor Dannel P. Malloy unveiled his biennial budget today, covering fiscal years 2012 and 2013. The budget includes investments in job creation, as well as cuts in spending, concessions from state employees and tax increases in approximately equal measures, while keeping the safety net intact and supporting business and industry as they create jobs.

Governor Malloy: Businesses Interested in First Five Program Should Contact Office Directly
Last week, Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced the creation of his ‘First Five’ initiative—a new program that will provide incentives to the first five businesses that each bring a minimum of 200 new full-time jobs to the state within the next 24 months. Today, Governor Malloy announced that companies interested in the program should call his office directly to learn more.
