  In February, Governor Dannel P. Malloy used his annual State of the State address before a joint session of the Connecticut General Assembly to focus on the theme of Connecticut Fairness. The Governor outlined several specific policy initiatives aimed at creating a fairer, more equitable, and more just state for Connecticut residents, stressing in particular the importance of focusing on fairness in the context of a tumultuous national and global political landscape. Legislators took action on several of the major initiatives the Governor proposed at the beginning of the legislative session and they are now being transmitted to his desk for his signature.

• 5/1/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Historic Long-Term Partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced an historic partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB) that will help the company grow their workforce by nearly 1,900 bringing it to more than 13,000 by 2034, allow for capital investments of greater than $800 million in the state over the next 17 years, and more than double their spending on in-state suppliers, which are located in 102 Connecticut cities and towns. Connecticut’s investment will allow EB to maintain its position as the highest-quality provider of submarines to the U.S. Navy, thus capturing additional overhaul and repair work while continuing the delivery of the Virginia Class Submarines.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are congratulating the Connecticut State Senate for their 35-1 vote this evening in favor of House Bill 5386, which echoes the intent of a similar legislative proposal the Governor introduced earlier this year (Senate Bill 15) and highlighted in his State of the State address. The bill aims to prevent unintended pay discrimination in the state by prohibiting employers from inquiring during the hiring process about a prospective candidate’s previous salary history.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and members of the administration released the following statements in response to Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit against the Trump-Pence administration, alleging that the dramatic changes the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is making to the Title X program – including changing the program so that it no longer focuses on either birth control or reproductive health care and instead pushes patients toward abstinence and tries to prevent patients from utilizing Planned Parenthood’s services – are contrary to the Title X statute and regulations, which make clear that Title X is meant to provide comprehensive, evidence-based contraception and reproductive health services.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), the U.S. firm in one of the largest professional services networks in the world, is planning a major expansion project in Connecticut that will see the creation of up to 400 new jobs in the state over the next five years. The company plans to spend $20 million on the expansion, which includes establishing Stamford as the headquarters for its Insourced Solutions for Tax (IST) division.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Robert Klee today kicked off the beginning on the state parks season in Connecticut. As a result of the recently launched Passport to Parks program, this is the first summertime season that vehicles registered in Connecticut will be provided free entry into all of Connecticut’s state parks.

Governor Nancy Wyman are commending the Connecticut State Senate for voting 26-10 tonight to give final approval on legislation that will ban bump stocks and other enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons, including trigger cranks, binary trigger systems, and other modifications. Governor Malloy proposed the ban in January.

Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately in honor of Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Walter Greene, who passed away today in the line of duty following a courageous battle with cancer as the result of his response and service in support of New York City in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
