Artists Respond

Overview

The Artists Respond grant program awards funds to Connecticut artists for community-based projects that range from large audience events to small group activities. Artist-led projects use the arts to inspire, empower, educate, and transform Connecticut communities.

The program is not accepting applications at this time, and FY24 notifications will be made in mid-January, 2024.

The Office of the Arts alternates annually between the Artist Fellowship program and the Artists Respond program. The upcoming state fiscal year 2025 grant cycle will offer the Artist Fellowship program with the Artists Respond program offered in fiscal year 2026. Therefore, the anticipated schedule for the next round of Artists Respond grants is noted below:

  • Program guidelines and application available in late spring or early summer 2025.
  • Application deadline in late summer 2025.

Connecticut artists may apply for a grant of $3,000 to support artist fees and project related expenses.

Artists Respond Projects:

  • should thoughtfully engage the community where the project takes place.
  • should consider social issues and current events that are significant to this community.
  • serve as a Call to Action and be responsive to the social issue identified by the artist/applicant.
  • use the arts to advance community conversations.
  • must occur in Connecticut and be initiatives led by the artist/applicant. Artists may partner with organizations (nonprofits, business, etc), but the project may not be an extension of the organization's work.

Application Deadline: for the FY24 cycle has passed.

Grants support projects occurring between February 1, 2024 and January 31, 2025.
