DEEP Re-imposes Alcohol Ban for Seven Recreation Areas
(HARTFORD, CT) – The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has re-imposed temporary alcohol bans for seven state recreation areas. These bans are in effect from Friday, June 9, through Wednesday, September 6, at the following locations:

DEEP and White Memorial Conservation Center Launch Bat Cam
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Wildlife Division and White Memorial Conservation Center have worked together to establish a “Bat Cam” in a Litchfield barn. The barn, on the White Memorial property, is where female big brown bats give birth and raise their young every year.

Moose Struck by Motor Vehicle on Rt 15

Governor Lamont and Commissioner Dykes Statements on President Biden’s Announcement of $144 Million To Improve Broadband Connectivity in Connecticut

U.S. Department of Energy Awards Wallingford Affordable Housing Complex Clean Energy Grant
(HARTFORD) – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it has selected a proposal submitted by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), in coordination with the University of Connecticut (UConn), Wallingford Housing Authority (WHA), Wallingford Electric Division, and Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP), to design a geothermal heating and cooling system to support an affordable housing development in Wallingford. The 132-unit development – Ulbrich Heights, owned and operated by the Wallingford Housing Authority – was one of only 11 projects in 10 states selected.

Connecticut Releases Clean Energy Solicitations
(HARTFORD, CT) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today released two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for new grid-scale zero carbon electricity resources. The proposals will help advance Governor Lamont’s Energy Action Plan to improve energy affordability and reliability for Connecticut ratepayers, and help achieve the state’s statutory mandates for a 100 percent zero carbon electric sector by 2040 and economy-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction of at least 80 percent below 2001 levels by 2050.

Connecticut Celebrates the New Year with First Day Hikes on Jan. 1
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and its partners are encouraging folks to get outside on New Year’s Day. Walk, hike, and enjoy nature safely on January 1st by joining our many volunteer state park friends groups as Connecticut celebrates First Day Hikes, a nationwide initiative to get outdoors.

Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition and Urban Green and Community Garden Grant Rounds Open Through Oct. 2
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is encouraging municipalities, land trusts, and water companies to apply for funding to aid in the purchase and protection of open space through the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition (OSWA) Grant Program. This round of grants represents the 26th funding round of grants awarded under the program. Additionally, DEEP welcomes municipalities considered distressed or target investments communities to apply for funding through the Urban Green and Community Garden Program (UGCG). Both programs are accepting applications through October 2, 2023.

DEEP Announces $570,000 in Additional Sustainable Materials Management Grants to Help Municipalities Reduce Waste and Save on Solid Waste Disposal Costs
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today three additional towns and one expanded pilot program have been approved to receive over $570,000 in grant funds through the Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Grant program. Bethel, Bethlehem, Middlebury, and Kent will be joining 15 other municipalities, including Newtown, to implement innovative pilot programs to collect residential food scraps and reduce trash.
