  Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that he has extended a friendly wager to Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller over the outcome of tonight’s NCAA Women’s National Championship game between the University of Connecticut Huskies and the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

• State Joins National Settlement with Shire Pharmaceuticals

  Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane and state Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today that Connecticut has joined a federal-state settlement with Shire Pharmaceuticals, LLC to resolve allegations that the company inappropriately marketed Adderall XR, Vyvanse, Daytrona, Lialda and Pentasa for conditions not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

• Courtney, Jepsen Call on Congress to Extend Critical Mortgage Tax Provision

  Congressman Joe Courtney and Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen highlighted the need to extend tax relief for forgiven mortgage debt. The tax provision, which allowed taxpayers to exclude “income” from mortgage modifications, short sales, and foreclosures from being subject to federal income taxes, expired at the end of last year.

• Consumer Counsel Katz, AG Jepsen: Settlement to Provide $29 Million in Refunds to Aquarion Water Company Customers

  Due to changes in the federal Internal Revenue Service’s accounting regulations, Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut stands to recover approximately $29 million for taxes paid since 2007 and, under a settlement agreement finalized today, the company will refund those dollars to its customers over a three-year period, Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz and Attorney General George Jepsen announced.

• Gov. Malloy, AG Jepsen: BIA's Wholesale, Dramatic Federal Tribal Recognition Changes Should be Rejected

  Attorney General George Jepsen yesterday filed official comments with the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs on behalf of the state in opposition to proposed rules issued that would significantly weaken the substantive requirements for federal tribal recognition. Governor Dannel P. Malloy said that he supports the Attorney General's comments and that, if ultimately enacted, the BIA's proposed rules would have a unique impact in Connecticut.

• Consumer Alert: Gov. Malloy, AG Jepsen, DCP Commissioner Warn Consumers About Ebola Related Scams

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein are encouraging Connecticut residents to be on alert for any potential scams tied to the Ebola outbreak. Scammers may be trying to cash in on fear from those who are currently concerned about the outbreak by either providing phony methods to prevent the virus or creating fake charities.

• Connecticut Joins $550M Joint State-Federal Settlement with Mortgage Servicer SunTrust

  Connecticut has joined with the federal government, 48 other states and the District of Columbia in a $550 million settlement with mortgage lender and servicer SunTrust that resolves origination, servicing and foreclosure abuses, Attorney General George Jepsen announced today.

• State Brings Criminal Charges and Civil Claims Action against Stamford-based Dental Provider Alleging Medicaid Fraud

  In a coordinated law enforcement effort, the state has commenced both criminal and civil proceedings against a Stamford-based dental practitioner and related individuals and businesses alleging a long-running and substantial scheme of fraudulent Medicaid claims for dental services provided to residents of long-term care facilities in the state, Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State's Attorney Kevin T. Kane and Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today.

• AG Jepsen: Connecticut Residents to Begin Receiving Refunds from EBook Lawsuit Settlements

  Consumers in Connecticut will begin receiving account credits or checks this week through the partial settlement of an eBook price-fixing lawsuit brought in 2012 by Attorney General George Jepsen and attorneys general from 32 other states.

• State Secures Judgment against New Haven Companies and Operator for Hazardous Waste, Air Pollution Violations

  Three New Haven companies and their operator must pay nearly $750,000 in civil penalties under a recent court order for violating the state’s hazardous waste and air pollution control laws and regulations, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said today.

• State Releases Report on Charitable Response to Tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein today released a report on the overwhelming charitable response that evaluates information provided voluntarily by organizations engaged in fundraising related to the tragedy, provides a quantitative analysis of survey responses and identifies ways that state regulators and the nonprofit community can partner and collaborate to provide transparency, bolster donor confidence, consolidate resources and increase coordination.
