• 12/1/2018 Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of President George H.W. Bush

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately in remembrance of President George H.W. Bush, who passed away on Friday evening. Pursuant to U.S. Code (4 U.S.C. 7m), the flag shall be flown at half-staff for a period of 30 days following the death of a president or former president. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

• 12/18/2018 Gov. Malloy Releases Climate Change Recommendations, Adds Connecticut to Newly Formed Coalition Addressing Transportation-Related Emissions

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the final set of recommendations from the Governor’s Council on Climate Change (GC3), which will establish a sustainable path for achieving Connecticut’s long-term vision for decarbonizing our economy in order to address the problem of human-induced climate change. The policy recommendations are focused on three broad objectives: zero-carbon electricity generation; clean transportation; and clean, efficient, and resilient buildings.

• 12/26/2018 Gov. Malloy: State Resurfaced 261 Two-Lane Miles of Roadways in 2018

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker today announced that state resurfaced a total of 261 two-lane miles of roadways in 2018. CTDOT also completed 38 two-lane miles as part of the pavement preservation program, which includes crack-filling, surface patching, drainage repairs, and other rehabilitation work prior to resurfacing to extend the life of existing roadways.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that his request for a major disaster declaration in connection with the severe rain and flooding that impacted parts of the state on September 25 and 26 has been approved for public assistance for Middlesex and New London Counties, including the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes.

Malloy and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Commissioner Michael Bzdyra today announced that customers who call the DMV have saved an estimated 10 million minutes of time waiting on the phone ever since the agency launched new technology in the spring giving customers the option to be called back at a scheduled time of their selection.

• 12/14/2018 Gov. Malloy: Independent Analysis Shows Recent Adjustments Are Providing a More Stabilized Path for State Employee Pension System

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that a pension stress test recently conducted by The Pew Charitable Trust on behalf of the State of Connecticut shows that recent changes made during the Malloy administration to the State Employees Retirement System (SERS) have helped insulate the system from risk even in poor economic conditions. The Governor said that the changes made to SERS can be used to provide a path to help stabilize the Teachers Retirement System (TRS), which was found by the analysis to be in need of action to aid solvency risks and prevent the forthcoming spikes in the state’s share from overcrowding the state’s budget.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Robert Klee today announced that, under a recently adopted statute requiring the state to conduct an appraisal of nuclear power-generating facilities and solicit bids for zero-carbon electricity-generating resources, the state has selected two nuclear power bids, along with nine solar project bids – two of which are paired with energy storage – and one offshore wind project.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut State Department of Education (SDE) has launched TEACH Connecticut, a comprehensive approach toward attracting diverse and talented people into the teaching profession. By partnering with TEACH.org, the state will be better able to recruit and attract teachers or teacher candidates through advertising, a Connecticut dedicated website (connecticut.teach.org), and exciting in-person events.

• 12/7/2018 Gov. Malloy, Congressional Delegation Announce $9.1 Million Build Grant for Stamford Transportation Center

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, and Rep. Jim Himes today announced that U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $9.16 million BUILD Transportation grant to fund improvements to the Stamford Transportation Center. The grant – which will be matched by $13.74 million in additional state money – will fund upgrades to five elevators and 17 escalators and enhancements to the internal circulation system. The investment will ensure the station can operate in a state of good repair for the next 25 years and beyond.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that the Department Economic and Community Development (DECD), in collaboration with the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Connecticut Manufacturing Innovation Fund (MIF) Advisory Board has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to create a mobile manufacturing training lab program for the State of Connecticut. The goal is to provide incumbent workers with the skills to succeed in manufacturing jobs and to increase and sustain the engagement of Connecticut’s young people in the state’s manufacturing talent pipeline.
