Gov. Malloy Reminds Residents That Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins June 1
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state emergency management and insurance officials are reminding Connecticut residents that as the first day of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1, it is always important to have preparations in place should any severe weather potentially impact the state. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the principal threat period for Connecticut occurring from mid-August to mid-October.

Gov. Malloy Announces Groundbreaking Partnership between Connecticut and Center for Policing Equity
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Connecticut’s police agencies, including the Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association, have joined in a partnership with the Center for Policing Equity’s (CPE) National Justice Database (NJD), the largest compilation of police data in the nation. To date, more than 240 of the country’s police departments, representing more than 25 percent of the United States’ population, have partnered with the NJD, but today’s announcement makes Connecticut the first state to make such a commitment.

Gov. Malloy: State Allowing Insurance Companies to Utilize Out-Of-State Adjusters to Expedite Claims Resulting from Tuesday’s Severe Weather
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Insurance Department has activated its emergency adjuster program that allows insurance companies to quickly register their out-of-state adjusters and bring them into the state to help with claims of property and auto damage. The Governor explained activating this protocol will help expedite the many anticipated claims resulting from the severe storms that impacted the state on Tuesday afternoon.

Gov. Malloy Urges Municipal Leaders to Work With State on Collecting Critical Data Needed in Aftermath of Tuesday’s Tornadoes and Severe Storms
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today is urging municipal leaders in towns and cities affected by Tuesday’s tornadoes and severe storms to partner with the state and collect the critical data that will be needed to determine whether thresholds to request a Major Disaster Declaration from the federal government have been met. A potential declaration could permit the state and its eligible municipalities to receive federal aid that can offset some of the costs that residents, businesses, and state and local governments are facing in the aftermath of the damaging storms.

Gov. Malloy Signs Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency for Tuesday’s Severe Storms
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed a Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency to assist the state and its municipalities with response and recovery efforts following Tuesday afternoon’s severe weather throughout portions of the state. The emergency order will give state agencies flexibility in assisting municipalities to respond to and recover from the damages from the storms.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Applaud House Passage of Legislation Banning Bump Stocks
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are applauding the Connecticut House of Representatives for voting tonight to approve legislation that will ban enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons, including items such as bump stocks, trigger cranks, binary trigger systems, and other modifications. The legislation was adopted by a vote of 114-35.

Gov. Malloy Asks FEMA to Participate in State's Efforts to Assist Homeowners with Crumbling Foundations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has submitted a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), asking the agency to establish a field office in northeastern Connecticut that would conduct a preliminary damage assessment for the purpose of determining the extent and impact of the approximately 34,130 homes in the area with foundations that are at risk of crumbling and actually collapsing due to what the state believes is the result of a natural disaster, according to the result of information obtained over the course of its investigation into this ongoing situation.

Gov. Malloy: Flags to Fly Half-Staff Sunday in Recognition of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service

Malloy today announced that - in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama and Public Law 107-51 - U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, October 9, 2016, in recognition of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, an annual observance honoring the sacrifices of fallen firefighters throughout the country.

Gov. Malloy Says the State is Continuing to Make Progress Building the Hartford Commuter Rail Line as State-of-the-Art Construction Machine Begins Operations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker today unveiled the mammoth Track Construction Machine (TCM) that is now being used to double-track portions of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) passenger rail line, which is now being branded as the CTrail Hartford Line. Building a second track parallel to the existing single track, which is currently used by Amtrak trains, will allow more frequent train service and more efficient train movements when the CTrail Hartford Line, which will allow frequent, commuter rail service between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield, begins operations in January 2018.
