• 10/2/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Retirement of Labor Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Connecticut Department of Labor Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer has opted to retire from the agency at the end of this year.  Commissioner Palmer began her position as the head of the department in August 2012 and was reappointed earlier this year when the Governor began his second term in office.

• 10/1/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Financial Services Company MC Credit Partners Relocating to Connecticut

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that MC Credit Partners, LP, an institutional manager of middle market direct lending funds, is relocating from New York City to Stamford, moving 16 employees to Connecticut with plans to create five new positions over the next two years.

• 10/26/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Funds to Create New Affordable Housing in Six Towns across Connecticut

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein, and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) Executive Director Karl Kilduff today announced state investments of over $20 million to create six affordable housing developments across the state.  The housing grants, which come from the most recent Competitive Housing Assistance for Multifamily Properties (CHAMP) funding round, will assist in creating and rehabilitating 230 affordable units and 52 market-rate units.

• 10/29/2015 Gov. Malloy Permanently Establishes State Council on Storm Resiliency

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an executive order making permanent a working group - comprised of state agency heads and experts - that is responsible for strengthening the state's resiliency from extreme weather events, including tropical storms, hurricanes, storm surges, flooding, ice storms, extreme high winds, extreme heat, and slow onset events such as sea level rise.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today held a cabinet meeting with state commissioners in an effort to help inform short and long-term budget conversations around the state.  The Governor outlined the current budgetary challenges facing Connecticut, laid out his principles for addressing those challenges, and also put forward some specific ideas for moving the state forward.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy is reminding Connecticut residents that U.S. and state flags should fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, September 11, 2015, in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

• 9/4/2015 Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation to Help Ease College Debt, Implement a Student Loan Bill of Rights

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined groups of advocates and state officials at a bill signing ceremony to commemorate two new pieces of legislation that aim to tackle rising student loan debt and college affordability. The first - Public Act 15-200 - was introduced by Governor Malloy, allowing students to refinance their loans at substantially lower rates and delivering lower monthly payments. The second - Public Act 15-162 - gives the Connecticut Department of Banking more regulatory oversight over student loans to help ensure fairness in the process.

• 9/17/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces New Program to Spur Brownfield Redevelopment Planning

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) is now accepting applications for a new grant program designed to help communities develop implementation plans for remediating and redeveloping clusters of brownfield sites.

• 9/29/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces $6 Million Federal Grant to Create Training Programs for Manufacturing and Aerospace Industries

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded the state with a $6 million grant to develop the Eastern Connecticut Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative - a program that will initially create a pipeline for customized training programs in manufacturing in the eastern portion of the state, and provide similar assistance to the aerospace industry throughout Connecticut.

• 9/28/2015 Gov. Malloy and Delegation Announce Federal Grant to Help Once-Incarcerated Veterans Receive a ‘Second Chance,’ Gain Employment, and Avoid Homelessness

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and members of Connecticut's Congressional delegation today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service has awarded The WorkPlace with a $130,000 grant to provide services that will assist formerly incarcerated veterans considered "at risk" of becoming homeless in finding meaningful employment.  The Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program grant focuses on providing job referral and counseling services, and will be used to supplement the Governor's Second Chance Society goals of ensuring that nonviolent offenders are successfully reintegrated into society and become productive members of Connecticut's economy.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined State Department of Education (SDE) Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell, State Senator Beth Bye (D-West Hartford), and State Representative Andy Fleischmann (D-West Hartford) at Conard High School in West Hartford, where they highlighted the state's plan to replace the 11th Grade Smarter Balance Assessment - or SBAC exam - with the SAT later this school year.
