Gov. Malloy Announces Small Town Economic Assistance Grants for Essex, Hebron, Monroe, Tolland, and Borough of Woodmont
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) awards today for the towns of Essex, Hebron, Monroe, Tolland, and the Borough of Woodmont in Milford. Towns are awarded funds to undertake projects that upgrade infrastructure, strengthen business corridors, and improve public spaces.

Gov. Malloy Attends Ceremonies at Community College Advanced Manufacturing Centers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined Board of Regents President Robert A. Kennedy at ribbon-cutting ceremonies held at Housatonic Community College (HCC) in Bridgeport, Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) in Waterbury, and Quinebaug Community College (QVCC) in Danielson, marking the opening of new Advanced Manufacturing Centers at each college.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff Sunday to Honor Fallen Firefighters
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, in response to a proclamation issued this evening by President Barack Obama, has ordered U.S. and Connecticut flags to fly at half-staff on Sunday, October 7, 2012 in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

Gov. Malloy: Charter Communications Establishing Corporate Headquarters in Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that Charter Communications, Inc., a Fortune 500 company and the fourth-largest cable operator in the United States, plans to establish its headquarter office in downtown Stamford. Charter will invest more than $10 million and intends to bring 200 jobs to the area, which includes the majority of its executive officers. Charter will lease an approximately 70,000 square foot space at 400 Atlantic Street.

Gov. Malloy: Five Area Residents Will Advise on Stamford Transportation Center Redevelopment
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has selected five volunteers from the Stamford area with experience on the needs of the region's commuters and business community to work with DOT Commissioner James P. Redeker in evaluating proposals for the redevelopment of the Stamford Transportation Center's parking garage and providing guidance in ensuring that the redevelopment best reflects local priorities and the needs of the community.

Gov. Malloy: Federal Grants Awarded to Support Extended Learning in High-Need Schools
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that fourteen grant applications from municipalities throughout the state, totaling more than $2.5 million, have been approved as part of the United States Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center initiative, which supports programs that help children in high-need schools succeed academically by increasing access to extended learning opportunities.

Gov. Malloy: Historic Arrigoni Bridge Fully Open After Construction
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and James Redeker, Commissioner of the State Department of Transportation (DOT), joined Senator Richard Blumenthal, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, Portland First Selectwoman Susan Bransfield, federal transportation officials, and local leaders to celebrate the completion of the year-long rehabilitation of the Arrigoni Bridge.

Gov. Malloy Orders Extension of All Motor Vehicle Deadlines & Expiration Dates
Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Monday morning ordered that all expiration dates and periods of validity for motor vehicle registrations, licenses, permits, certificates and other forms of credentials issued by or on behalf of the Department of Motor Vehicles be immediately extended until further notice due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy on Connecticut.

Gov. Malloy Orders Road Closures
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today ordered road closures for all state highways. The closures will be implemented in two phases. At 11:00 A.M., trucks will be prohibited from operating on limited access highways. At 1:00 P.M., state highways will be closed to all non-emergency related vehicles.

Gov. Malloy Orders Local Officials on Shoreline Towns from Greenwich to Old Saybrook to "High Alert"
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, based on the most recent data from the National Weather Service which suggests that the strong possibility exists for historic flooding at high tide later tonight, convened an emergency call at approximately 8:15pm with the mayors and first selectmen of the coastal towns that comprise the state’s Regions 1 and 2.

Malloy will give the keynote address at the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence statewide conference, “Emerging Best Practices to Strengthen Connecticut’s Response,” whose goal is to provide advocates, clinicians, therapists, law enforcement, attorneys and other state and local providers with tools and practical applications to enhance Connecticut’s response to domestic violence.
