• 2/8/2022 DEEP SEEKS NOMINATIONS AND APPLICATIONS FOR CT ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ADVISORY COUNCIL

  (HARTFORD) - A new advisory council is being formed to advise the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) on current and historic environmental injustice, pollution reduction, energy equity, climate change mitigation and resiliency, health disparities, and racial inequity.

• 9/28/2022 DEEP Reports Die-off in Local White-tailed Deer Herd

  (HARTFORD, CT) –​The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that hemorrhagic disease was recently confirmed in white-tailed deer for the third year since it was first documented in our state in 2017. The first positive case of 2022 came from a deer found in Goshen. A second positive deer was found on a property in Kent where an additional five deer have been found dead. The third positive case was from a property in East Haddam where an additional three deer have been found dead. Reports to DEEP of dead deer in multiple other towns, mainly in the northwest and southeast of the state, fit the description of animals affected by the disease.

• 5/20/2022 DEEP Forecasts Elevated Levels of Ozone for CT for Saturday May 21

  (HARTFORD)—Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is expecting several days of very warm weather, which will contribute to elevated ozone levels across much of Connecticut. These levels may approach or exceed Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) levels for parts of Connecticut on May 21, 2022.

  (HARTFORD, CT) - Grab your winter gear, bundle up your children and join us for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s No Child Left Inside® 16th annual Winter Festival at Burr Pond State Park, 384 Burr Mountain Road, Torrington. A full range of fun, outdoor winter activities for the entire family will be happening on Saturday, February 5, 2022, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is a partnership between DEEP’s No Child Left Inside® and Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) programs plus the City of Torrington.

• 3/14/2022 DEEP Announces the Winners of the 2022 Youth Fishing Passport Fishing Challenge

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is pleased to announce the winners of the Youth Fishing Passport Fishing Challenge. Noah Savin (Middlebury) landed 17 of the 21 species, while Emmett Dougherty (Coventry) caught 16, Kiera Mullen (Coventry) 14, and Zakk Wallace (Stratford) 13. Each receive a prize pack with a fishing rod and reel, tackle; the Freshwater Fishes of CT and Lakes and Ponds of Connecticut books; and a Fish CT hat.

• 3/9/2022 City of Meriden’s Food Scrap Co-Collection Pilot Reducing Waste

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the City of Meriden today celebrated the successful launch of “Making Meriden Green,” a first-of-its-kind municipal food scrap co-collection pilot program that the city kicked off last month.

• 6/9/2022 DEEP Re-imposes Alcohol Ban for Seven Recreation Areas

  (HARTFORD, CT) – The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has re-imposed temporary alcohol bans for seven state recreation areas. These bans are in effect immediately and until September 5, at the following locations.

• 7/29/2022 Leave them Alone: DEEP Offers Advice for Snake Encounters

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is reminding residents that snakes are active this time of year and if left alone, snakes pose no threat to people. Snake encounters, whether around the home or along a hiking trail, can be alarming for some people. DEEP is offering advice on what to do during snake encounters and a reminder about how important these reptiles are to the natural world.

• 7/29/2022 Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew Sends Engine Crew to Fight Texas Wildfires

  (HARTFORD, CT) – Four members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew, acting as an initial attack team, mobilized with an engine Friday morning from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s Eastern District Headquarters in Marlborough to fight wildfires in Texas.  

• 2/4/2022 2022 Connecticut Duck Stamp Reproductions Now Available

  (HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announces that a limited quantity of reproductions of the artwork for the 2022 Connecticut Migratory Bird Conservation (Duck) Stamp, which features a male wood duck, is now available for purchase. The artwork was created by Sophie Archer, who was the winner of the 2021 Connecticut Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest.

• 3/29/2022 DEEP Resumes Non-Resident Fee Collection at Certain State Parks

  (HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), is resuming its remote non-resident parking fee system at some state parks beginning Friday, April 1st, and will resume in-person non-resident parking fee collection at several state parks beginning Memorial Day Weekend.

• 12/2/2022 DEEP Requests Proposals for Recreational Trails Grants

  (HARTFORD, CT) – Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is now accepting proposals for the State’s Recreational Trails Grants. This request for applications is the largest funding round in the history of the Recreational Trails Grant program since it was established in 1997. It will make $9 million available to improve Connecticut’s trail infrastructure, which has seen significant usage increases since the onset of the pandemic. Applications will be accepted through March 1, 2023.
