Gov. Malloy Urges DHS Secretary to Stay Deportation of Farmington Family
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen requesting that her agency stay the planned deportation of Zhe Long ‘Tony’ Huang and Xiang ‘Kris’ Li to China. The couple currently reside in Farmington, Connecticut with their two children, who are both American citizens.

Governor Nancy Wyman today provided written testimony to the legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee in support of House Bill 5031, An Act Equalizing Access to Student-Generated Financial Aid, which will allow students, regardless of their immigration status, to receive equal access to financial aid.

Gov. Malloy Urges Trump Administration to Consider Connecticut Legislation on Firearm Enhancements When Enacting Federal Reforms

Malloy today wrote a letter to United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions, recommending that as the Attorney General’s Office drafts regulations regarding firearm bump stocks as requested yesterday by President Trump, they should utilize legislation he has proposed on the issue because of its carefully constructed, comprehensive, and inclusive language, which was specifically designed to increase effectiveness and improve public safety.

Gov. Malloy Announces Drop in Recidivism and Projected Prison Population
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that as a result of Connecticut’s criminal justice reform initiatives, newly available data from two reports that were released today are showing that recidivism rates and the projected prison population are continuing to drop in Connecticut. Recidivism rates have been declining in each of the four categories that are regularly monitored by the Office of Policy and Management – new arrests, new convictions, returns-to-prison for any reason, and returns-to-prison to begin a new sentence of incarceration – and the prison population is projected to drop by 726 prisoners (approximately 5.25 percent) over the next year, continuing the precipitous drop the state has observed during the course of this administration.

Gov. Malloy Encourages School Districts to Take Advantage of Connected Learning Initiatives
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today encouraged school districts to take advantage of the Connecting Connecticut Classrooms (C3 Initiative) program, a partnership among his office, the Connecticut Commission for Educational Technology (CET), and EducationSuperHighway, a national nonprofit focused on upgrading internet access in every public school classroom in America. The program provides free consulting, training, and technical support to Connecticut districts, enabling them to take full advantage of federal funds to build state-of-the-art networks that leverage today's educational technology resources.

Gov. Malloy Announces $10 Million to Enhance Security at 182 Schools Across Connecticut in Most Recent Round of School Security Grants
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has approved an additional round grants totaling $10 million that will be used to enhance security infrastructure at 182 public and private schools in 51 towns and cities across the state. The funds were approved under the School Security Grant Program that was created in 2013 as part of a broad legislative package signed into law by the Governor focusing on gun violence prevention, mental health, and school security issues.
