Gov. Malloy: Connecticut State Police Have Saved Nearly 300 Lives Since Inception of Program That Equips Troopers With Overdose Reversing Medication
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut State Police have successfully saved the lives of 268 people since the inception of a new program that began on October 20, 2014 and provides state troopers with the training and equipment needed to administer Naloxone Hydrochloride, commonly known as Narcan, which reverses the effects of opioid overdoses.

Gov. Malloy: Federal Government Says Connecticut Is Among Best in Nation for Efficient Enrollment in Food Aid Program, Gives $2.4 Million in Bonus Awards to State
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded nearly $2.4 million in performance bonuses to the State of Connecticut for being among the top states for enrolling eligible households in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). The federal bonus awards recognize Connecticut for timely processing of nearly 98 percent of applications in a service that requires complex eligibility screening, and for bringing food aid to over 92 percent of the eligible population.

Gov. Malloy Announces Bridgeport Educator Named 2019 Connecticut Teacher of the Year
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Department of Education Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell today announced that Mrs. Sheena Graham, a performing arts and choir teacher at Bridgeport’s Warren Harding High School, has been selected as Connecticut’s 2019 Teacher of the Year – the state’s highest recognition in honoring extraordinary teachers. State and local officials surprised Mrs. Graham at her school this morning to deliver the good news in person.

Gov. Malloy Announces New State Law Banning Bump Stocks Is Now in Effect
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that a new state law he signed (Public Act 18-29) that bans the sale, purchase, possession, and manufacturing of bump stocks and other enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons has taken effect today. Connecticut now joins just a handful of states the ban the devices – a situation that Governor Malloy said needs to be addressed on a national basis by Congress.

Gov. Malloy: State Seeks Proposals for Mobile Manufacturing Training Labs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that the Department Economic and Community Development (DECD), in collaboration with the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Connecticut Manufacturing Innovation Fund (MIF) Advisory Board has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to create a mobile manufacturing training lab program for the State of Connecticut. The goal is to provide incumbent workers with the skills to succeed in manufacturing jobs and to increase and sustain the engagement of Connecticut’s young people in the state’s manufacturing talent pipeline.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Go CT Card, Creating Greater Ease for Bus Transit Riders
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker today announced the launch of a new “tap and go” fare card that will provide increased convenience and ease for public transit commuters who ride the state’s bus system by allowing them to place funds into an account connected to the card, and then simply tapping the card on the fare box each time when boarding. Riders who use the card will automatically receive any discounts that are available, providing them with the lowest possible fare without any guesswork.

Malloy today announced that – in accordance with a presidential proclamation directing flags to be lowered to half-staff throughout the country in honor of the victims of the mass shooting at The Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will fly at half-staff beginning immediately until sunset on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

Gov. Malloy Statement on Monthly Jobs Report
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today issued the following statement following the release of the September 2018 Labor Situation report. Although preliminary numbers for September show a total loss of 500 jobs for that month, the August numbers were revised upwards from 1,100 jobs to a total gain of 3,300 jobs. In total, private sector jobs are up 23,400 jobs over the year from September 2017 to September 2018. This represents the 98th consecutive month where monthly private sector job numbers exceeded the numbers in the same month in the previous year.

Gov. Malloy: Federal Government Approves Request for SBA to Provide Disaster Assistance to Homeowners, Businesses and Nonprofits Affected by May Tornadoes and Severe Storms
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved his request for disaster assistance resulting from the May 15 tornadoes and severe storms that impacted portions of Connecticut. The declaration means that homeowners, businesses, and nonprofits in New Haven County and the contiguous counties of Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, and Middlesex will be eligible to receive loans from the SBA to help with the costs of both physical and economic damages.
