Gov. Malloy and State Employee Unions Reach Agreement on Pensions That Will Support the Employee Retirement System While Strengthening the State's Financial Obligations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and representatives from the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) today announced that after months of productive negotiations between the administration and SEBAC representatives, an agreement has been reached to modify the funding calculation and amortization schedule for the State Employee Retirement System (SERS) to help avoid the fiscal cliff the state would otherwise face in the coming years. The purpose of the agreement, which now heads to the General Assembly for approval, is to allow the state to fully fund its pension obligations on a stable, predictable basis while continuing to support the state’s retirement system.

Gov. Malloy: State Grant to Help Hartford Combat Gun Violence
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that an expansion of the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system in Hartford will become operational by today as a result of a $300,000 state grant. The technology detects and conveys the location of gunfire or other weapon fire using mounted audio sensors. Those sensors triangulate signals and identify the point of origin of a gunshot, immediately communicating that information to law enforcement.

Gov. Malloy: Small Business Express Program has Supported 1,500 Companies to Expand and Create Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner Catherine Smith, today announced that the state's Small Business Express Program (EXP) has reached a new milestone. With an economic toolkit the state did not have prior to the Governor's administration, more than 1,500 Connecticut companies have been supported by the program, helping create and retain over 22,000 jobs.

Gov. Malloy: SAT Exam to be Used in Place of the 11th Grade Test for the First Time Wednesday

Gov. Malloy: Leading Furniture Retailer to Expand its Headquarters Significantly in Connecticut and Create 125 New Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the headquarters of Bob's Discount Furniture, a national furniture store chain, will expand in Manchester with a new project that will significantly increase the company's space, retain 326 people, and create 125 new jobs in the next five years.

Gov. Malloy Announces Awards to Support Affordable Housing Development Across the State
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein today announced that nearly $28 million is being awarded to support the development of affordable housing across Connecticut as part of the latest round of funding under the state's Competitive Housing Assistance for Multifamily Properties (CHAMP) program. These awards will play a role in helping to create, rehabilitate, or preserve approximately 200 units of affordable housing and focus on expanding access to transit-oriented development, creating new veteran's housing units, and adding supportive housing for those who are living with disabilities.
