Air Quality Alert: DEEP Forecasts Elevated Levels of Ozone for Connecticut Saturday June 30, 2018 through Monday July 2, 2018
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is forecasting a prolonged period of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) to Unhealthy (U) levels of ozone across Connecticut beginning Saturday June 30, 2018 and continuing through at least Monday July 2, 2018.

DEEP Updates State Parks Status Ahead of Holiday Weekend
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that due to yesterday’s rain, four state park beaches are closed to swimming after testing positive for the presence of indicator bacteria. The four state park beaches that are closed, Rocky Neck State Park in Niantic, Gardner Lake State Park in Salem, Kettletown State Park in Southbury, and Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret, will be resampled today (Friday) with results due back on Saturday.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) will be conducting heightened enforcement targeting boating under the influence as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign.

Gov. Malloy Signs Landmark Bills on Climate Change Resiliency and Renewable Energy
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today held a bill signing ceremony in Hartford to commemorate the final passage of two pieces of legislation he introduced that will further Connecticut’s role as a national leader in environmental protection and put the state on a more sustainable path by decreasing statewide greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the usage of renewable energy.

Gov. Malloy Signs Order Implementing the State Water Plan
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today signed an executive order directing the state’s Water Planning Council (WPC) to immediately implement the State Water Plan that was submitted to the Connecticut General Assembly in January 2018.

DEEP Euthanizes Black Bear
On Tuesday, June 19, 2018 the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) responded to a residence on Winsted Road in Torrington, CT for a black bear that had entered a home through a screen window.

State Mosquito Monitoring Program Begins Testing for Mosquito-Borne Viral Diseases
The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program today announced it is monitoring mosquitoes for the presence of viruses that can cause illness in people including West Nile virus (WNV) and eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEE).

Peak Tick Abundance and Increased Infection with Lyme Disease Reported Statewide
The Tick Testing Program at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) is reporting peak tick abundance throughout the State at this time, and higher than average infection with Borrelia burgdoferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease.

Fourth-of-July Weekend Beachgoers Asked to “Fish, Swim, and Play from 50 Yards Away” of Bird Nesting Areas
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is asking the public to help protect birds that nest in coastal areas by staying at least 50 yards away from places where large concentrations of birds are gathered and avoiding areas that are roped off or marked with signs designating nesting locations.

Gov. Malloy And Commissioner Klee Statements on Presidential Executive Order Rolling Back the Clean Power Plan
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Robert Klee released the following statements in response to an executive order President Trump signed today rolling back previous action made by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the Clean Power Plan, including a rule cutting power-plant carbon emissions.
