Gov. Malloy: Special Election for State Senator in New Haven and West Haven to be Held February 25
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that a special election to fill a vacancy in the State Senate representing the 10th Senatorial District, which covers portions of New Haven and West Haven, will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.

Gov. Malloy: Service on New Haven Line Reaches Important Milestone as On-Time Train Performance Continues to Improve
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that on-time train performance on the New Haven Line continues to improve. According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) and Metro-North Railroad (MNR), on-time train performance levels reached more than 95 percent in August.

Gov. Malloy: Severe Cold Weather Will Again Impact the State Over the Next Few Days
With bitter cold temperatures expected again over the next few days, Governor Dannel P. Malloy has reactivated the state’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol, directing the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), the Department of Social Services (DSS), the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), and the Department of Housing (DOH) to coordinate with 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to ensure that the state’s most vulnerable people are protected from the severe cold weather.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that ridership on Shore Line East – the commuter rail line between New Haven and New London – set a new record last month with 63,959 passenger trips.

Gov. Malloy: Over 900 Residents Re-Enroll at a Connecticut State College or University Through "Go Back to Get Ahead"
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that over 900 Connecticut residents have re enrolled in college to complete their associate or bachelor’s degree at one of the 17 Connecticut State Colleges & Universities using a free course offer from the Go Back to Get Ahead program.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Awarded Federal Planning Grant to Study How to Strengthen State’s Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing Workforce
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that the state Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT), which have partnered on a Regional Aerospace and Defense Exchange (RADE) initiative to study the impact of defense contract reductions to Connecticut and New England, will receive a $1.25 million U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment (DoD OEA) grant for the joint effort.

Gov. Malloy: Reducing State Debt Will Increase Fiscal Stability
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today received a report from Office of Policy and Management (OPM) Secretary Benjamin Barnes that shows overall state debt has been reduced by 15% over the last three years, or $11.6 billion. The report points out that, “had action not been taken … the total of the state’s long-term obligations would have reached a high of $76.2 billion.”
