Gov. Malloy and State Officials Host White House Drug Policy Director for Round Table Discussion on Addiction
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Mayor Toni Harp, Senator Richard Blumenthal, and the commissioners of the Connecticut Departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), Public Health (DPH), and Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) were joined today in New Haven by Jim Carroll, President Trump’s nominee for “drug czar” and the current Deputy Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), for a roundtable discussion on addiction. New Haven medical, police, and social service providers also were part of the conversation.

Gov. Malloy Calls on FEMA to Immediately Reverse Decision Cutting Off Temporary Housing for Puerto Rican Families
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today sent a letter to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator William “Brock” Long calling on the federal agency to immediately reverse their sudden decision to rescind Transitional Shelter Assistance (TSA) housing benefits that had just days earlier been extended for 36 Puerto Rican families currently residing in Connecticut since being displaced from the island by Hurricane Maria.

Gov. Malloy: 18 Students from Cheshire Correctional Institution Earn Associate Degrees to Prepare Them for Future Careers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy delivered the keynote address today at the inaugural graduation ceremony for the Wesleyan University Center for Prison Education (CPE), a program that allows students to enroll in a variety of courses and earn an associate degree from Middlesex Community College (MxCC). The ceremony, held at Cheshire Correctional Institution, saw the conferral of degrees to 18 inmates who are currently housed at the prison.

Gov. Malloy: Federal Court Affirms Department of Children and Families Meets Four Additional Goals, Bringing State Closer to Ending Decades of Oversight
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that the U.S. District Court overseeing the Juan F. consent decree today affirmed that the Connecticut Department of Children and Families has achieved and maintained four more of the 22 measures required to end 27 years of federal oversight of the agency. With these goals met, the court monitor has narrowed the remaining outcomes in the state’s exit plan to only five of the 22 outcomes that existed when the Malloy administration entered office in 2011.

Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Approval of Major Disaster Declaration in Response to May’s Tornadoes and Severe Storms
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that his request for a major disaster declaration in connection with the May 15 tornadoes that impacted parts of the state has been approved for public assistance for New Haven and Fairfield Counties. The Governor’s request for assistance for individuals remains under review.

Gov. Malloy Announces $61.5 Million to Support Affordable Housing Development in Diverse Communities
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein, and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) Executive Director Karl Kilduff today announced that the State of Connecticut will award more than $61.5 million in grants and loans to help create, rehabilitate, or expand 24 housing developments in 20 towns and cities across the state. The investments will create or rehabilitate 978 homes.
