Gov. Malloy: Correctional Facility in Niantic to Close as Result of Declining Prison Population
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as a result of the continuing decline in the state's prison population, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) will close the Niantic Annex at the York Correctional Institution effective January 9, 2016. The closure will save taxpayers approximately $7.6 million per fiscal year. With crime at a 48-year low - dropping significantly each year - and recidivism down dramatically, the DOC currently has enough empty beds to relocate the offenders who are currently located in the Niantic Annex to other facilities within the state.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Commissioner of Education Dianna R. Wentzell today announced that graduation rates in the state reached a record high in 2015 - hitting 87.2 percent, significantly higher than the national average of 82.3 percent.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Seeing Record High Wage Growth
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that wages for Connecticut residents have reached record highs. According to the most recent Department of Labor data, Connecticut's private sector wages have risen nearly $4 per hour since 2007. During that span, weekly wages for residents, on average, have increased by about $130 per week since - a 15 percent increase. The data shows that 2015 wages are the highest at any point ever reported.

Gov. Malloy Announces $17.5 Million in Funds for Upgrades to Improve Service on the Danbury Branch Line
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that an allocation of $17.5 million in state funding for the design, engineering, and construction of a new rail yard on the Metro-North Railroad Danbury Branch Line in Norwalk was approved at today's meeting of the State Bond Commission. The funding comes under the Governor's "Let's Go CT!" initiative, which is making unprecedented investments to upgrade and modernize the state's transportation system.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Applaud Final Legislative Approval of Bill Protecting Victims of Domestic Violence
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are applauding a vote in the State Senate this afternoon to approve a bill the Governor introduced that protects victims of domestic violence by prohibiting the possession of firearms for anyone who becomes subject to a temporary restraining order. The bill, which received approval last week in the House of Representatives, will now be transmitted to the Governor for his signature.
