• 12/21/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Manufacturing Company Relocating to Connecticut, Adding Hundreds of Jobs in Windsor Locks

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC, the largest mattress manufacturing company in the country, plans to relocate their Massachusetts operations to Windsor Locks, resulting in approximately 200 new or relocated jobs into Connecticut.

• 12/28/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut's Minimum Wage Will Increase on January 1, 2016

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as the result of a new law he signed last year, Connecticut's minimum wage is scheduled to increase from the current rate of $9.15 an hour to $9.60 per hour on January 1, 2016.  The change is the second in a series of three scheduled increases under the adopted legislation, which will ultimately see the state's minimum wage increase to $10.10 on January 1, 2017.

• 12/23/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces First-of-its-Kind Jobs Training Center at New Haven Correctional Center to Further Lower Crime Rates

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as part of his Second Chance Society initiatives, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) will host an American Job Center early next year within the New Haven Correctional Center.  Created in partnership with the Workforce Alliance and the City of New Haven, this job development program will be the first-of-its-kind in the state, and one of only 12 in the country.  The initiative aims to reduce recidivism - which has declined dramatically - and to continue lowering Connecticut's crime rate, which is at an almost 50-year low.

• 12/3/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Signs Onto Climate Agreement Committing to International Carbon Emission Reduction Effort

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP 21, meets in Paris this week, he has committed the State of Connecticut to sign onto the Under 2 MOU agreement - a global compact among cities, states and provinces worldwide to limit the increase in global average temperature to below two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

• 12/15/2015 Gov. Malloy and New England Governors Urge Congress to Take Additional Steps to Tackle Opiate Addiction

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and the Governors of every New England state sent a letter today to Congressional leaders urging federal law to be amended to allow medical professionals - such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants - to prescribe the treatment medication buprenorphine for opiate addiction.  Currently, nurse practitioners can prescribe addictive narcotics for pain, but under the Drug Abuse Treatment Act of 2000 are currently barred from prescribing medications designed to break addiction to deadly narcotics and heroin.

• 12/8/2015 Gov. Malloy and Congressional Delegation Announce $1.2 Million Award to Assist Low-Income Residents with Employment and Job Training

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, the members of Connecticut's Congressional Delegation, and Connecticut Housing Commissioner Evonne M. Klein today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved nearly $1.2 million in grants to help low-income residents in Connecticut find employment and obtain valuable job training skills.  The State Department of Housing and ten local housing authorities across Connecticut will benefit from the federal award.

• 12/3/2015 Gov. Malloy: Flags Lowered to Half-Staff in Honor of the Victims of the Tragedy in San Bernardino, CA

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that - in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama directing flags to be lowered to honor the victims of the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California - U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will fly at half-staff beginning immediately until sunset on Monday, December 7, 2015.

• 12/10/2015 Gov. Malloy Intends to Sign Executive Order to Ban the Sale of Firearms in Connecticut to Those on Government Watch Lists

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced his intention to sign a first-in-the-nation executive order that will allow firearm permits to be denied to those on the government watch lists. The Connecticut State Police already performs background checks on those seeking permits to purchase guns in Connecticut, based on Governor Malloy's 2013 gun violence prevention legislation, one of the smartest laws in the nation. Pending federal approval, Governor intends to sign an executive order mandating that Connecticut State Police be required to cross-reference the names of those who wish to obtain a permit to own a firearm with the government watch lists. Those with existing permits who are found to be on those watch list would have their permits revoked, and if a new match is found, the permit would be denied and the purchaser would be unable to purchase handguns, shotguns, rifles and ammunition. Assault weapons are already outlawed in Connecticut.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging drivers in Connecticut who will be partaking in festivities this holiday season as Christmas and New Year's Eve approaches to drive safely, have a plan in place to get home if they plan on consuming alcohol, and take extra precautions when getting behind the wheel.

• 12/6/2015 Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Remain at Half-Staff Monday in Recognition of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to remain at half-staff on Monday, December 7, 2015, in recognition of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.  The national observance honors the lives lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

• 12/17/2015 Gov. Malloy: Connecticut's Private Sector Recovers All Jobs Lost from the Great Recession

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements regarding the Connecticut Department of Labor's monthly "Labor Situation" report for November 2015.  The report shows that Connecticut's private sector grew 5,200 jobs last month and has now recovered 113,400 of the 111,600 jobs that were lost during the Great Recession, bringing its recovery rate to 101.6 percent.  In addition, the unemployment rate is at 5.1% - its lowest level since March 2008, before the start of the recession.

• 12/31/2015 Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Has Experienced Significant Unemployment Drops Over Last 12 Months

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that U.S. Department of Labor statistics show that over the past twelve months, Connecticut experienced the sixth largest decline in unemployment of any state in the nation.  According to the most recent federal and state data, jobless numbers dropped from 6.3 percent in November 2014 to 5.1 percent in November 2015.  That 1.2 percent decrease is among the largest nationwide.
