Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Strengthening State’s Domestic Violence and Anti-Stalking Laws
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he signed legislation this afternoon that will strengthen the state’s domestic violence laws. The bill, which was approved by unanimous votes in both chambers of the General Assembly, amends the criminal statutes governing stalking to include stalking via social media, telephone, and other forms of harassment, tracking and intimidation; changes the strangulation statutes to include suffocation; and enhances the penalty for violation of the conditions of release, among other things.

Gov. Malloy Applauds Final Passage of Legislation Authorizing the Testing of Autonomous Vehicles in Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is applauding the final passage of legislation in the Connecticut General Assembly that will create a pilot program allowing manufacturers and fleet service providers to test fully autonomous vehicles in Connecticut. The legislation, which was adopted in the House of Representatives tonight in concurrence with the Senate and next moves to the Governor for his signature, establishes strict requirements for testing under the program and requires participating municipalities to enter into agreements with autonomous vehicle testers.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy is encouraging Connecticut residents to take advantage of the special discounts and unique promotions being offered at over 200 tourist destinations across the state this Saturday, June 10, 2017, as part of the state’s 13th annual Connecticut Open House Day. Coordinated by the Connecticut Office of Tourism, participating attractions from throughout the state will be offering special incentives throughout the day – such as free or reduced admission, free gifts, or special exhibits and activities – in an effort to encourage residents to explore everything the state has to offer.

Gov. Malloy Announces Amazon to Create Large-Scale Distribution Center and Add 1,800 New Jobs in North Haven
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Amazon – the largest internet-based retailer in the world – has decided to expand its presence in Connecticut with the creation of a new state-of-the-art, 855,000 square-foot fulfillment center in North Haven. The company plans to spend $255 million on the project, where it will create 1,800 jobs at the new facility. The company, which recently opened a fulfillment center in Windsor and a sorting center in Wallingford, currently employs approximately 2,000 people in Connecticut. With the addition of the North Haven facility, that number will increase to approximately 3,800 Connecticut-based employees.

Gov. Malloy Urges Towns and Cities to Register for Program That Will Significantly Improve Accuracy of the Upcoming Census
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging municipalities across Connecticut to register for the U.S. Census Bureau’s Local Update of Census Address (LUCA) Program – an initiative created by the bureau as an opportunity for state and local governments to provide an updated and complete list of addresses in their communities in preparation for the federal government’s upcoming census in 2020.

Gov. Malloy Announces First Meeting of the Newly Formed Commission on Fiscal Stability and Economic Growth
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the newly formed Commission on Fiscal Stability and Economic Growth will hold its first meeting on Friday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 1D of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The 14-member group was created as part of the bipartisan state budget that Governor Malloy signed into law on October 31 and will be responsible for developing and recommending policies to achieve state government fiscal stability and promote economic growth and competitiveness within the state.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Receives $2.6 Million to Assist State’s Efforts in Processing and Testing of Sexual Assault Kits
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has been awarded two competitive, federal grants worth $2.6 million that will assist in the state’s efforts to improve the processing and testing of sexual assault evidence kits. The grants come to the state as part of the ongoing work of the Governor’s Sexual Assault Kit Working Group, which Governor Malloy formed in 2016 to assist in the standardization and advancement in testing evidence kits by the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory.
