Gov. Malloy: New State Partnership Will Provide Enhanced Education Opportunities and More Job Marketability to Those on the Verge of Leaving Incarceration
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that a new partnership between the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) and the Department of Correction (DOC) will create a new 10-hour construction safety and health training class to persons in DOC custody who are nearing the end of their sentences and preparing to seek employment. The federally-approved course, often referred to as the “OSHA-10,” is a new initiative that has a the goal of increasing the education and skills of those leaving incarceration so they become more marketable to prospective employers.

Gov. Malloy Announces $15.1 Million in Grants to Assist Nonprofit Providers in Capital Improvement Projects
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that over $15.1 million in grants are being awarded to fifty nonprofit organizations throughout Connecticut as part of the state’s Nonprofit Grant Program, which assists organizations with the costs associated with one-time infrastructure improvements that upgrade the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided by the agencies.

Gov. Malloy Releases Detailed July 1 Spending Plan Alongside Proposed 'Mini-Budget' Alternative
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released a detailed “Resource Allocation Plan” for Fiscal Year 2018. The Governor will implement this plan via executive order should the General Assembly fail to adopt any budget for the biennium before July 1, 2017, and is prepared to allocate funding for the first quarter of the fiscal year (July 1 through September 30) this week. The Governor has also released a proposed quarterly “mini budget,” which would require adoption by the legislature. Neither this legislation nor the Resource Allocation Plan would make our deficit worse over the coming months while the legislature arrives at a budget solution. The administration believes that legislative action on the mini budget is the most responsible and preferable alternative, short of adopting a balanced and responsible 2-year budget.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Return to Full-Staff on Tuesday Evening
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that U.S. and state flags should return to full-staff at sunset on the evening of Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Flags have been flying at half-staff in the state in honor of U.S. Navy Sonar Technician 3rd Class Ngoc T. Truong Huynh of Oakville, who was among those who died on board the U.S.S. Fitzgerald in a collision in Japan on June 17. The U.S. Navy has scheduled a shipside memorial service to be held in Japan on Tuesday in his honor.

Gov. Malloy Signs Executive Order to Continue Funding State Government While Budget Talks Continue
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that due to legislative inaction on a budget to take effect at the start of the fiscal year on July 1, he has signed an executive order to ensure the continued, efficient operation of state government until a new, two-year state budget has been signed into law. Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Reforming the State’s Pretrial Justice System to Help Break the Cycle of Crime and Poverty
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed into law legislation he introduced and developed with a number of lawmakers and advocates that will create a major reform to the state’s methods of detention for people who have only been charged with a crime in order to continue efforts reducing the state’s historically low crime rates and provide solutions to challenges that discriminate against the poor. The legislation is Public Act 17-145, An Act Concerning Pretrial Justice Reform. It was adopted in both chambers of the General Assembly with broad, bipartisan support.

Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Furthering the State’s Efforts to Combat the Opioid Crisis
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed into law legislation that he introduced earlier this year and developed in cooperation with a number of lawmakers that is designed to further the state’s efforts to combat the opioid crisis. It builds upon a series of reforms that Governor Malloy has signed on the topic since taking office in 2011.

Gov. Malloy Adds Connecticut to Coalition of States Committed to Upholding the Paris Climate Agreement
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has committed the State of Connecticut to join the United States Climate Alliance – a coalition of U.S. states committed to upholding the Paris Climate Agreement and taking aggressive action on climate change. Other participants in the alliance to date include California, Washington state, and New York.
