  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the New Haven commuter rail line saw ridership grow during 2016 with a total of 40.5 million passenger trips during the year – surpassing last year’s total by approximately 20,000 and setting an all-time record, according to newly released data from Metro-North Railroad. The New Haven Line remains the busiest commuter rail line in America.

Malloy today announced that the state budget proposal he will release next week will include a reduction in the tax rate on insurance premiums – dropping from the current rate of 1.75 percent down to 1.5 percent. The Governor explained lowering this tax rate will continue the state’s efforts to improve the business climate for insurers located across Connecticut, which account for more than 58,000 jobs in the state.

• 1/22/2017 Gov. Malloy Announces State Funding to Conduct Foundation Testing For Homes in Northeastern Connecticut

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he intends to allocate $5 million in state funding to be placed on an agenda of an upcoming meeting of the State Bond Commission as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to assist homeowners in northeastern Connecticut facing concerns due to the possible existence of a mineral that could cause the foundations of their homes to deteriorate. The funding will be used to provide testing and including visual inspections of foundations in order to better understand the extent of the problem while also assisting property owners with the costs related to testing.
