Saturday: Governor Malloy Addresses Youth & Government Conference, Attends Connecticut Science Fair
On Saturday morning, Governor Malloy will speak at the 68th Annual Connecticut YMCA Youth and Government conference at the State Capitol in Hartford. The conference, aimed at promoting the understanding of lawmaking through active involvement in the legislative process, is a longstanding tradition at the State Capitol, allowing over 250 students from across the state to hold a mock legislative session featuring the students playing various roles, including legislators, constitutional officers, the press corps, and lobbyists.

Friday: Governor Malloy Administers Oath of Office to DEP Commissioner, Takes Business Tour of Thomas Hooker Brewing Company in Bloomfield
On Friday morning, Governor Malloy will administer the oath of office to Daniel Esty, the new Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection. On Friday afternoon, Governor Malloy will take a business tour of the Thomas Hooker Brewing Company in Bloomfield. The tour of the company’s facility will give the Governor an opportunity to meet with the management team and staff at the small business, whose products are named after one of the founders of Connecticut and have gained a national reputation.

Friday: Governor Malloy Speaks at Opening Ceremony of Robotics Competition in Hartford
On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will speak at the opening ceremony of the Northeast Utilities FIRST Connecticut Regional Robotics Competition in Hartford. The event, featuring 58 teams of students, teachers and mentors, has been held for the past seventeen years in Hartford, allowing students to work with professional engineers and develop science, technology, engineering and math skills that will apply in a work environment.

Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Aid in Wake of Major Disaster Declaration by White House
President Barack Obama has approved Governor Dannel P. Malloy's February 18 request for a major disaster declaration for federal aid in connection with the January 12 snowstorm. This declaration includes Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, New Haven, New London and Tolland Counties, including the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nations.

Gov. Malloy Announces First Set of M-8 Cars Operating on New Haven Line
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Metro-North today announced that the first set of eight new M-8 rail cars were put into service today from Stamford, offering Metro-North customers the latest in rail technology and comfort. The train left Stamford at 10:30 a.m. and arrived at Grand Central Terminal in New York at 11:36 a.m.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has appointed Dan DeSimone to be the director of Connecticut’s state office in Washington D.C. DeSimone will work with Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation and coordinate Connecticut’s federal legislative and policy work on behalf of Governor Malloy.

Gov. Malloy Appoints ING Executive Catherine Smith to Lead Department of Economic and Community Development
In one of his highest profile appointments to date, Governor Dannel P. Malloy today named ING executive Catherine Smith to lead the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD). Smith, who lives in Northford, has worked for ING for the past 10 years; prior to that, she worked at Aetna for 17 years.

Gov. Malloy Betting on UConn Men in Final Four
Governor Dannel P. Malloy has a friendly wager riding on the outcome of the UConn-Kentucky matchup in this weekend’s Final Four game. Governor Malloy bet Storrs-made UConn Dairy Bar ice cream against Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear’s Kentucky country ham that the UConn men will emerge victorious over the University of Kentucky Wildcats when the teams meet on Saturday night in Houston.

Gov. Malloy Directs State to "Aggressively Pursue" Florida Rail Money
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today instructed the state Department of Transportation to “aggressively pursue” rail money originally intended for Florida’s high speed rail project. Florida Governor Rick Scott declined the $2.4 billion, and the U.S. Department of Transportation opened up applications for the funds today.

Gov. Malloy Names Christopher "Kip" Bergstrom as Executive Director of Commission on Culture and Tourism
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today named Christopher “Kip” Bergstrom as the Executive Director of the Commission on Culture and Tourism. Upon the consolidation of this function into the Department of Economic and Community Development, Bergstrom would assume additional responsibilities as part of DECD Commissioner Catherine Smith’s team.

Gov. Malloy Invites Foreign Navies to OpSail 2012
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today sent letters to the Chiefs of Naval Operations of 27 countries inviting them to Operation Sail (OpSail) 2012 in Connecticut. Efforts by the Office of Military Affairs ensured that New London was added to the list of ports for OpSail 2012 and the Navy’s commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Over 900,000 people visited the coastline city during OpSail 2000 and planning has begun to host even larger crowds in 2012.
